The design, by Robert Lowe shows Richard Trevithick’s Steam Locomotive of 1804, which was the first to use a high pressure steam engine to pull 10 tons of iron, 5 wagons and 70 men over a distance of nearly 10 miles, it took just over 4 hours.

Richard Trevithick was a British inventor and mining engineer from Cornwall, UK. The son of a mining captain, and born in the mining heartland of Cornwall, Trevithick was immersed in mining and engineering from an early age.
