The obverse has the portrait of the Queen by Ian Rank-Broadley.

This 2009 commemorative £2 coins omits the date on it's reverse, so this has been incorporated into the obverse design.

The reverse features the hand written excerpt ‘we’ll tak’ a cup o’ kindness yet, for auld lang syne’ from Rober Burns’ 1788 Scots poem ‘Auld Lang Syne’. Widely regarded as the Scottish national poet, Burns was born on the 25th January 1759.

The edge reads: SHOULD AULD ACQUAINTANCE BE FORGOT
