Since The Royal Mint released the first series of Beatrix Potter 50ps in 2016, these charming coins have created a collecting frenzy, becoming increasingly sought-after right into 2020.
In 2016 The Royal Mint released the first five coins marking the 150th Anniversary of Beatrix Potter. These coins were designed by Emma Noble and consisted of the Beatrix Potter Anniversary, Peter Rabbit, Jemima Puddle Duck, Mrs Tiggy Winkle, and Squirrel Nutkin. Of these releases, Jemima Puddle-Duck had the lowest minted figure at 2,100,000 and is the most sought after coin of the whole collection.
Due to their success, The Royal Mint released a further 4 50p coins in 2017 and these were Peter Rabbit, Tom Kitten, Jeremy Fisher, and Benjamin Bunny. This increase in popularity had an effect on the mintage figures with Tom Kitten being the least at 9,500,000 and Benjamin Bunny having the most at a whopping 25,000,000.
In 2018, 4 more Beatrix Potter 50p coins were released and these were Peter Rabbit, Flopsy Bunny, Mrs Tittlemouse, and The Tailor of Gloucester. With the exception of Tailor of Gloucester, the other 3 coins were the lowest mintage of the series. With Peter Rabbit and Flopsy Bunny being the lowest with 1,400,000 and Mrs Tittlemouse at 1,700,000.
The final two Beatrix Potter coins were both Peter Rabbit and they were released in 2019 and 2020. These were not released into general circulation and can only be purchased as a Brilliant Uncirculated coin.
