The Harry Potter coins were released to mark 25 years since the first publication of J. K. Rowling’s ‘Harry Potter and A Philosopher’s Stone.’ It features a spell-binding design of the famous wizard. All four coins in the set have the same unusual lenticular feature. When titled in different directions, it changes between the number 25 and the iconic Harry Potter lightning bolt. Each design in this set has been taken directly from the cover of the 2015 fully illustrated edition of the first book, by Jim Kay.
The star of the show, Harry Potter, is illustrated on the first of four 50p coins issued in this set which was released from 2022 and 2023.
The obverse design features the last portrait of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Jody Clark.
Hogwarts Express is the second coin issued as part of the Harry Potter 50p series.
The obverse shows Queen Elizabeth II’s fifth portrait – making this coin one of the last UK commemorative coins to feature Her Late Majesty.
The Professor Dumbledore fifty pence was issued next as the third part of The Harry Potter series and was released in 2023.
The obverse features King Charles III’s effigy.
Hogwarts School was the final coin to be released in the Harry Potter 50p series.
As with the Professor Dumbledore coin, this coin too has the portrait of King Charles III on the obverse.
This is a unique set of coins as it is the first set to be released with two different portraits, maybe the last of it's kind for a long time.
