In 2023, iconic characters from the original Star Wars trilogy featured on official UK coins for the first time. A four-coin collection was issued to celebrate 40 years since the release of Return of the Jedi.
 
The first coin in the series is available now and features the lovable duo 'R2-D2 and C-3PO' inside the famed Millennium Falcon. The design also includes a lenticular feature which changes between Tatooine and the Rebel Alliance Starbird when tilted. 
 
The second coin which is also available now, features the deadly duo 'Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine', perhaps the most notorious villains in the whole Star Wars franchise. This design also includes a lenticular feature which changes between the Galactic Empire symbol and the Death Star when tilted.
 
This set will be completed with the release of two other 50p coins. 'Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia' which is due for release in November, followed by 'Han Solo & Chewbacca' in January 2024. Both of these unreleased coins can be pre-ordered now to guarantee them for your collection.
 
This is the first full set of british coins to feature King Charles III’s portrait. The Harry Potter set that was released earlier this year also included King Charles III's portrait but the first two in the set had Queen Elizabeth II's portrait, making them quite a unique collection.
